Regional Round Up - Kerry: A Resource for Visual Arts

A resource for visual artists.

Kerry County Council with support from the Arts Council is delighted to launch a new resource for visual artists in Kerry. Developed in association with Visual Artists Ireland (VAI), the Regional Round-Up features news, creative stories, opportunities and resources available to artists living in Kerry and artists wishing to move to Kerry. “Making art in Kerry is not an isolated experience but more and more mainstream and supported,” says Noel Kelly of VAI, with support from K-FEST and its festival team.

Ceol-Anm-Ogam Workshop

Dip into an ancient language.

An all-day workshop, Ceol-Anm-Ogam welcomes participants to explore 300 AD Ogham script, including translating one’s name, followed by a musical phrase. Thomas O'Sullivan will have instruments at this interactive workshop, including the harp, which is the basis for the musical research — 20 strings for 20 letters.

Kerry crafters sell their wares.

This year, K-FEST will host a dedicated outdoor Craft Market on both Saturday and Sunday. A selection of Kerry-based crafters will display and sell their wares, including woodturning, bespoke jewelry, arts, vintage clothing and much more. Along with viewing visual art and listening to up-and-coming Irish bands, festivalgoers can enjoy shopping for unique, boutique crafts from these talented artisans.

Parkour Performances + Workshops

A dose of gravity-defying acrobatics.

A number of performances and workshops will be held all weekend long with The Playground. Learn vaults, precision jumps, laches and kongs, as well as putting your skills together into smooth fluid parkour runs or games. Ages 5-105 welcome. no experience needed.

Creative Writing Workshop w/ Banshee Literary Journal

Writing tips for great short stories, essays and poems.

Hosted by Eimear Ryan and Laura Cassidy, discover how to write brilliant opening lines, convincing characters and authentic dialogue in a fun, focused workshop. The workshop will centre on short forms, including stories, essays and poetry.

A two-hour session suitable for writers of all levels.

Limited to 15 participants.

Fee is €5.


Banshee is an Irish Literary Journal which includes exciting, accessible, contemporary writing from Ireland and around the world, featuring short stories, flash fiction, poetry, personal essays and interviews. Banshee is edited by three writers — Laura Cassidy, Claire Hennessy and Eimar Ryan.

IFTA Presents: Patrick Bergin

An intimate evening with Patrick Bergin.

K-FEST is proud to present Patrick Bergin, an Irish actor and singer, best known for his role in Sleeping with the Enemy and for his stint playing in EastEnders.

Come and enjoy an intimate evening with Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) Chief Executive Áine Moriarty, who will conduct a live interview with Bergin during K-FEST 2K19.

Along with playing the menacing husband opposite Julia Robert’s  character and his role as the villainous Aidan Maguire, Bergin is known for playing Irish terrorist Kevin O’Donnell in the film adaptation of Patriot Games. He also appeared in the Scottish film, The Wee Man, as notorious Glasgow gangster Arthur “The Godfather” Thompson.

Audience members are welcome to engage in a Q&A following the interview.
