JOSH GRAY

JOSH GRAY

Sol y Sombra - 12.45am

Following his smash hit debut single We Should Run which saw Ireland native Josh Gray skyrocket to the top of the charts, Gray continues making sizeable and impressionable waves on the pop scene. Though only 21, Josh Gray’s career in pop music is well- founded and he utilises this tenacious background in the industry to his advantage, resulting in flawlessly crafted pop songs befitting of his own musical influences such as OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, Justin Timberlake and Maroon 5.

Josh Gray’s ability to marry groovy melodic riffs to his high falsetto makes his tracks uniquely energetic, and this is particularly evident on his second single Cut Loose, where an explosive and irresistibly catchy chorus booms out from an otherwise feel-good pop anthem. Cut Loose grabbed the attention of the playlist curators upon its release, and the track has been playlisted across several curated playlists on the platform.

Both We Should Run and Cut Loose serve as masterclasses in pop music-making, and Gray has ambitions to follow the course they’ve chartered with future projects. Of tracks yet to come, Josh posits the mantra that “...ideas always have potential, I’m excited and can’t wait to share this journey with everyone and anyone...”

PILLOW QUEENS

PILLOW QUEENS

The BarN - 12.15am

Having first come together in the autumn of 2016 on the basketball courts of a Dublin city park, the four members of Pillow Queens, soon realised that making music together would be an equally productive group activity. Cathy plays guitar and sings. Rachel plays drums and sings. Pam and Sarah swap guitar , bass and lead vocal duties. Within a few months they’d released their debut EP, Calm Girls, titled in an ironic nod to the bands anxious nature. The three songs dealt with themes of despair, crisis of self and distrust. The closing Wonderboys “an attempt to put into musical form the feeling you get when your eyes roll back into your head when faced with toxic masculinity.” The songs quickly found their way into the hearts of new fans in the local underground DIY scene, and even onto BBC 6music playlists, with Steve Lamacq calling them “deceptively infectious, with sharp hooks and sharp nails” . By the summer of 2017, the band were touring the UK and performing on festival stages.

POST PUNK PODGE

POST PUNK PODGE & THE TECHNOHIPPIES

Kingston’s Beer Garden - 11.30pm

Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies is a figment of punk and the Post’s imagination a singer/rapper/musician from Limerick. His goal is to turn the symbol of the brown envelope from a symbol of corruption, deception and greed into a symbol of self-expression, defiance and laughter. Accompanied by his sidekick DR. Asparagus Montague and DJ Jurassic Park 2 their live show consists of Podge on Violin through a load of pedals and main vocals and Asparagus on guitar, backing Vocals and Jurassic Park 2 on Laptop and DJ controller.

Their sound is a hybrid of many different genres including Punk, Electronic, Krautrock, Irish Trad, Techno, Hip Hop and Classical. They released their debut EP entitled Kick Against the Pricks on November 24th 2017 and Podge released the Stark Raving EP with Naive Ted in October 2017 and collaborated with Jimmy Penguin on his Savages EP in May 2018.

Their energetic live shows are an attack on the senses. Lyrically Podge writes about social issues such as Depression, Anxiety and what it is like to live in Ireland and the world today. Having left a trail of money, degrees and chaotic noise wherever they have played this summer.

Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies enjoy subverting genres and fusing comedic elements with a serious social conscience and message of defiance against injustices in the world. They are too fat for pigeonholes and revel in their unique freedom of expression through the medium of post punk and everything in between.

Their recent single entitled ‘Home is Where the Heart Bleeds’ is a charity single to raise money for the Novas homeless charity in Limerick and their new ep entitled ‘Post Millenium Tension’ will drop before the year is out with a keen eye on the dancefloor, paving a more electronic and eclectic path.

After playing festivals such as Body & Soul, Electric Picnic and Knockanstockan to name but a few they are in the music game for the long haul and not a mere flash in the pan act. Up the Punks & the Postmen and everyone in between.

BICURIOUS

BICURIOUS

The BarN - 11.15pm

Formed in September 2016 and débuting with a very successful headline gig in the Workman’s Club in February 2017, Bicurious have now played gigs all over Ireland and France, with plans to tour even more in 2018, at home and abroad.

Renowned for their crazy live shows which feature mosh pits, head-banging, riff sing-a-longs, and sometimes even vegan cake, they have rapidly built a loyal fanbase in Dublin and Ireland as a whole.

Their fans have shown their loyalty by funding most of the band’s début EP through crowd-funding and a packed-out fundraiser gig in Sin É, Dublin.

Recording guitar loops live, they build huge soundscapes; ranging from math-rock inspired riffs to jazzy chord progressions.

While Bicurious’ songs can often feature samples of political speakers, which aim to highlight injustices and crises in Ireland, occasional appearances from guests such as Samuel L. Jackson and Donald Trump are not unheard of either. All of this is facilitated by Gavin’s drum sample pad; the unofficial third member of the band.

They released their debut single Sugar Beats on the 6th of April 2017, followed by T.O.I on the 21st of July, 2017. Their début EP was released on the 9th of March 2018, produced by Tom Peters of Alpha Male Tea Party. The band celebrated the release with a sold out show in Whelan's, Dublin.

After almost a year of touring “I’m So Confused” in Ireland, France and the UK, they just recorded some new music in December with Tom Peters which will be released in 2019.
